Course Overview

Portuguese Level 7 is an Elementary Portuguese course for students who are already in the process of learning Portuguese. Portuguese Level 6 requires that you have previously studied Portuguese Level 6 or a course of at least 72 class hours. Our Portuguese language classes take place at our school in Covent Garden with a qualified, experienced teacher and fellow students. Evening language classes at IH London are dynamic and interactive as the emphasis is on spoken communication, which is achieved through lots of group work and role-plays. At the same time, there is systematic work on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, so that you can improve on all aspects of the language. Your teacher speaks in the target language throughout, so that you can refine your comprehension and listening skills. 

Course Content

Communicative aims

– Shopping for clothes and accessories – asking for particular goods including description, price, quantity, size, colour, availability, means of payment 

– Understanding advertisements about shops and shopping including opening and closing times, special offers, discounts, sales 

–  Making a complaint about unsatisfactory goods, giving reasons  

– Asking for a refund or replacement for unsatisfactory goods. 

– Speaking about how things used to be in the past 

Linguistic aims

– Vocabulary of clothes, fabrics, colours and patterns 

– The present continuous: Estou usando… 

– Opposites: grande/pequeno…largo/apertado 

– Comparatives os superiority, inferiority, equality: Tão bonito quanto… 

– The Imperfect: Eu era…e tinha…e usava… 

– Plural of colours 

Cultural aspects

– Comparing: Fashion in the 60s and 70s and today

Course Information

• Average class size: 8 (maximum 14)
• Students must be 18+ years old
• Existing language ability: 72 class hours of previous Portuguese language study required
• Classes will take place at our school in Covent Garden (16 Stukeley Street, Holborn, London WC2B 5LQ) 

Class Schedule

• The classes are 2 hours per week
• The course runs for 6 weeks
• The course takes place on weekday evenings 18:30 – 20:30

Mondays: 23rd May – 27th June 2022

Tuesdays: 5th July – 9th August 2022
